alive, awake, alert, enthusiastic!
hello! if you’re reading this, it means that somehow you’ve stumbled across my website. thanks for joining me!
(please do excuse my lack of capitalization, it’s a habit that i have yet to break… something about the sight of capital letters amongst my personal musings and ramblings unless used for Emphasis feels intrinsically Wrong to me. hope you can understand.)
i’ve decided to start a blog on here to talk about the successes and failures and overall excitement of being a human artist on the planet earth! if we’ve never met before, let me introduce myself: laura scott is my first name (a double name, like “mary kate” of olsen twin fame), and i’m a student, daughter, sister, partner, friend, and artist. i love poetry, pickles, pasta, alliteration, exploring, shoegaze, home-cooked meals, fancy cocktails, the color green and its many shades, hyperpop, the entire state of vermont, thrifting, and just generally having a great time. oh, and my last name is cary. if we HAVE met before, hi again :) i’m glad you’re here.
some general life updates: i’m currently home, getting some much needed r&r after a very busy second-to-last semester as a bfa acting student. last semester, in addition to working 2 part-time jobs (as an SMU student ambassador and a hostess at the world’s cutest wine bar), i performed in a mainstage production of “Judgment at Nuremberg,” finally got around to playing a dream role as mary wallace in gracie gardner’s “ATHENA” opposite my best friend margeaux and directed by my best friend bailey, all while taking classes and exploring dallas and enjoying my friends’ company.
over break, i’ve been memorizing for the production of “An Octoroon” that i’ll be in this upcoming semester. we start rehearsal on the first day of class, and it’s go-go-go until close on march 5th. i know this play is going to be challenging, especially due to the sensitive nature of the play’s content, but honestly, after playing the devoted wife of a nazi last semester, i’m far more confident in my ability to find compassion and depth within morally dubious characters. dora’s just another exciting part of that journey! and i’m excited to work alongside a team of compassionate and enthusiastic creatives who all care so much about realizing the play’s full potential. for my last show at SMU, i think it’ll be an amazing note to go out on.
my friends have lots of exciting stuff going on - two friends of mine were just accepted to edinburgh fringe this summer, my boyfriend is currently shooting a web series, so many friends have super exciting casting for the upcoming semester - i’m so proud and fortunate to be surrounded by such incredible, hardworking artists. okay cornball rant ooveer.
lots on my plate, but it’s all GOOD and EXCITING and i’m just so grateful. stay tuned for updates as i make this semester the best one yet :)
